BODY FLIGHT HISTORY |
WHAT IS BODYFLIGHT?
The legend about Icarus and his dream to become free as a bird dates back to the ancient times. The humans have always been aspiring to get off the ground and enjoy the feeling of flying. Nothing has changed in our times – the majority of the existing types of sports are related to overpowering gravity. One of them – flying in the vertical wind tunnel or bodyflight – gives the opportunity to come as close as possible to this dream, allowing to stay airborne for an indefinite time period and unattached to anything else, and what is the most important – to fly indeed.
HISTORY
The age-old dream about free flying became true in the year 1979, when the Canadian inventor Jean St. Germaine created the first wind tunnel intended for people. Before that, the technologies for such tunnels were used only for industrial purposes, such as testing the aerodynamic characteristics of aircrafts and vehicles.
As the time passed, the technologies continued developing, became more accessible and safe, until this opportunity to become airborne without any attachments was made available for each and every one. There are countries in the world, where for nearly 10 years now people have been actively engaged in flying.
Initially only skydivers used bodyflight tunnels as the training equipment for their sporting activities. However, approximately 5 years ago, as trustworthiness and popularity increased step by step, bodyflight gained the status of a type of sport itself, because it could offer inexperienced opportunities, dynamics, and emotions. It attracted both children and youth, who quickly grasped the bodyflight technique and appreciated the offered opportunities, and adults alike, for whom flying gave new, unexpected emotions in their daily lives.
